San Fransisco’s frum community not exempt from counter-culture label [Frum Satire]
Frum Satire’s Heshy Fried lays the groundwork for Frisco Kid jokes as he breaks down San Fransisco frumkeit.
“Chabadnicks who compost: One of my first Bay Area experiences was when I was yelled at by someone in the chabad of Berkeley for not composting my apple core and banana peel. Sure they must have been joking, but her scowl was not and I was told that it could never happen again. Since when did frum yidden care about the environment.”
Recent Knesset election poll shows Nationalist parties doubling-down [Jewish Press]
As the “attack Iran” drumbeats usher in the upcoming Knesset elections, a recent poll by Professor Avi Degani, President of the Geocartography group, predicts Israel’s nationalist camp will increase its share of seats to 76.
“If the National Union and Jewish Home would merge before elections, the poll places them as the fifth largest party with ten seats. According to the poll, Netanyahu could form a coalition of 62 seats with [Avigdor] Liberman, National Union and Jewish Home without the need for any ultra-orthodox or center-left parties.”
Oliver Stone’s son Sean is now a Shia Muslim [Forward]
Perhaps establishing his bona fides in the extraordinarily interfaith Stone family (Oliver Stone is a Buddhist half-Jew, Sean’s mother is a Christian), Sean Stone reportedly converted to Islam on a recent trip to Iran. Regarding Iranian President Ahmadinejad, Sean – aka Ali – had this to say:
“[Ahmadinejad] did come to America to extend a hand. And there’s a lot of mistranslation, literally, I’ve seen it. Ahmadinejad will say something and it will be mistranslated,’ Stone said at the time. ‘A lot of this is bull—, mistranslation. It’s an aggressive attitude on both parts, mostly on the American side.”
Lithuanian Haredi Rabbi Yoseph Elyashiv improving in Sharee Tzedek hospital [Yeshiva World News]
Maran Posek HaDor HaGaon HaRav (Our master, halachic authority, leader of our generation, the wise, the rabbi) Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, the leader of the Lithuanian ultra-orthodox movement is recovering in a Jerusalem hospital. While Rabbi Elyashiv holds no official title as head of any yeshiva, shul or community, his passing will most likely set off a scramble to recognize the next leader of the Lithuanian Haredi community.
“Elyashiv, who turns 102 next month, has opened his eyes and is alert, is gesturing with his hands, and is reported to have gotten out of bed and sit in a chair. The hospital clarified that although the Rabbi is conscious and responsive, he is still in critical condition. He is still breathing with the assistance of an artificial respiration machine, and is therefore still unable to speak.”
